Easy Graduation Pops | Kitchen Cents

Graduation is right around the corner and I have the perfect fun sweet treat to celebrate.

Today, we’re taking a delightful detour from our usual fare of family favorite recipes and quick, easy meals. Instead, we’re diving headfirst into the world of fun, themed treats that are as delicious to eat as they are delightful to behold.

Allow me to present my newest delightful creation: Edible Graduation Pops. These charming pops are made with Ferrero Rocher chocolate truffles, Ghirardelli chocolate squares, mini Reese’s cups, mini M&Ms, Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel and melted chocolate.

Topped off with a dash of whimsy in the form of miniature googly eyes, they’re the perfect celebratory treat for the graduate in your life or any graduation party.

Let me take you through a simple step-by-step tutorial on how to make your very own delicious Graduation Pops. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Ferrero Rocher chocolate truffles
  • Ghirardelli chocolate squares (I used dark chocolate because it looked more “black” like a traditional graduation cap but you can use whatever kind you prefer. You could even get a little extra creative and use white chocolate then paint it whatever color or design you desire).
  • Mini Reese’s cups
  • Brown mini M&M’s
  • Melted chocolate (your choice of type)
  • Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel candy
  • Gold edible paint *see Q&A for more information*
  • Gold sugar sprinkles *see Q&A for more information*

SUPPLIES:

  • Mini googly eyes (the really tiny ones)
  • Sucker sticks
  • Clear treat bags
  • Gold twist ties

HOW TO MAKE GRADUATION POPS:

  1. Prep Your ‘Graduates’: Keep the Ferrero Rocher truffles wrapped – their golden wrapper will add to the final aesthetic! Save the paper cup the truffle comes in. We’ll use it later. Unwrap the Ghirardelli chocolate squares and mini Reese’s cups – these will serve as the ‘cap’ of your graduation pops.
  1.  Make the Tassels: Using a 2-3 inch Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel (there are 9 pieces stuck together-you will pull one string apart and cut it to 2-3 inches long), cut the bottom inch or so into 4 thin strands. Make sure they stay attached to the top thicker part of the Twizzlers piece. Paint the ends and a portion of the thicker (uncut) piece with the gold edible paint, and before it dries, dip the painted part into the gold sugar sprinkles. Once it has dried, cut the none golden end so the final tassel is about 2 inches long.

  1.  Assemble the Caps: Start by attaching the Ghirardelli square to the mini Reese’s cup using some melted chocolate as ‘glue’. This will form the graduation cap. Once dry, attach a brown mini M&M on the center of the ‘cap’ and the edible Twizzlers golden tassel with a bit more melted chocolate.

  1. Make Them Poppable: Dip a sucker stick into melted chocolate. Insert the sucker stick into the bottom of each Ferrero Rocher truffle. Make sure to move the foil out of the way to avoid pushing it into the center of the truffle.
  2. Put on the Caps: Now, using a bit more melted chocolate, attach your newly formed graduation cap to the top of the Ferrero Rocher truffle, placing it directly onto the wrapper.
  3. Bring Them to Life: Add the paper cup that came with the truffle to the bottom of the stick as seen in the picture. With a hot glue gun or melted chocolate, carefully attach the mini googly eyes to the Ferrero Rocher ‘head’. Remember to let the glue cool and harden before proceeding to the next step.

Q&A:

WHERE CAN I FIND EDIBLE GOLD PAINT?

You can find edible gold paint at some specialty cooking stores such as Orson Gigi’s kitchen supply store or online. You can use edible gold powder mixed with vanilla or vodka or purchase edible gold paint used for cakes, edible flowers, or edible airbrushing.

Sometimes you can also find edible gold paint at craft store such as JoAnn Fabric, Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

I CAN’T FIND EDIBLE GOLD PAINT. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE I CAN USE?

You can use edible gold sheets. This is not the budget friendly why to go but it is another option.

You can also ditch the gold paint and use a small amount of honey, corn syrup or even vanilla to help the gold sprinkles stick.  The red from the Twizzlers will show through more but I think people would still get the idea you’re going for.

WHERE DO I FIND FINE GOLD SPRINKLES?

I’ve found gold sprinkles at Walmart, specialty cooking stores and online.  If you can’t find them in your local grocery store baking isle try asking the grocery bakery. They may be willing to sell you a small cup of sprinkles if they have them. If not, try finding them on Amazon or other online supplies.

WHERE DO I STORE THE WRAPPED POPS?

Simply store these graduation pops wrapped, in a cool, dry place.  Try to store them below 65F. If they are stored in a place that’s too warm, they will begin to melt and mark the clear bags they’re wrapped in.
