HOW DO I MAKE FROZEN MINT LIMEADE?

  1. Prep, measure and add ingredients to the blender.
  2. Give the blender a little swirl (one to two minutes is all it should take) and it’s done.
  3. Taste before you pour, add sugar if needed or if you like a sweeter drink.
  4. When finished, pour into glasses.

It’s so easy and quick! Here’s the ingredients list:

  • lime juice (fresh squeezed is best but bottled can work too)
  • sugar
  • water/ice
  • fresh mint leaves (go fresh, peppermint is my favorite but you could also use spearmint if that’s what you have on hand)

You’ll also need a blender. I have a Blendtec and absolutely LOVE it. If you’re in the market for an excellent blender you can check them out here. They’re a little pricy but well worth the money!

This frozen limeade recipe makes about 20-24oz. A perfect amount to share.

SHOULD I USE FRESH INGREDIENTS TO MAKE A FROZEN MINT LIMEADE?

Yes, when it comes to drinks like this, fresh is best. With that said, if all you have is bottled lime juice, you can use that too. The flavor will be a little different but will still taste good.

I would steer clear of artificial mint flavorings, mint extract or dried mint though. Fresh mint leaves will provide the best flavor.

HOW DO I JUICE A LIME?

Limes can be hard to juice especially because they can be very small. There are a few different methods you can use to release the juice from a lime. Here are a few tools that can be used to help release the juice from limes.

  1. Hand citrus juicer. These come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors. This can include a hand squeeze juicer, cup and lid with strainer, or a wooden reamer.
  2. Electric citrus juicer. This is the easiest but most expensive method. Electric citrus juicers can be very pricy when compared to the manual options.
  3. Manual press juicer. A little on the expensive side but works well for what it does.
  4. Fork. Yes, you can use a fork to juice a lime. If you don’t have or want to buy a tool to help with juicing, just grab a fork.

PRO TIP #1: Warming and rolling citrus fruit before juicing can help release juice more easily. Roll limes on table or counter using your hand. Press down as you roll it. This will soften and pop the membranes of the lime which will help release the juice. Heat limes up in the microwave for 15-30 seconds. This softened the lime which will help when juicing.

PRO TIP #2: Limes can vary in size and the amount of juice released can vary depending on the method of juicing. You can usually get about 1/4 to 1/3 cup juice from a HALF pound of limes.

HOW MUCH DOES A FROZEN MINT LIMEADE COST TO MAKE?

This delicious drink is actually very inexpensive to make. It’s super easy to make and everyone will love it.

I grow mint in my herb boxes through the summer so I just use what I have in my box. If buying at the store, I’ve found Rancho Market to be the cheapest place to buy fresh mint but you can find it in most produce sections of grocery stores.

If you have a lime tree I’m so jealous! I live in Utah (a high desert) where citrus fruit doesn’t grow well. If I lived in a place I could grow my own, I most definitely would try.

Because I don’t have my own tree, I typically find Rancho Market to be the cheapest for these too. They sometimes have them on sale for as low as 2 pounds for a dollar (that’s a crazy good price).

For this recipe, you’ll only need 3-4 limes depending on the size and juicing technique.

Cost breakdown of what my ingredients cost:

Prices for supplies may vary depending on location and store you purchase groceries from.  I try to shop bulk food stores, use coupons, watch ads and shop sales (like case lot), buy supplies in bulk to save money in the long run and use homegrown produce and herbs when available. These are a great way to stay within my grocery budget without sacrificing flavor or nutrition.

  • limes – $0.25
  • sugar – $0.04
  • mint leaves – Free (I grow my own)
  • water/ice – Free

This recipe makes about 20-24 ounces of frothy frozen mint limeade. You can add alcohol if you’d like in place of the water or in addition (we are non-alcohol drinkers so we go virgin everything).

This recipe is not only lip-smacking good and perfectly sweet for summer, but it’s also inexpensive to make at home with a price tag of only 29¢… that’s AWESOME!

If you don’t have access to a lime tree or fresh mint this recipe will be more expensive and if you add alcohol. If you can get your hands on cheap mint leaves or limes it’s great but even if you can’t this recipe is definitely still worth a try!
