Recipe Overview
*You can find the full recipe and instructions below on the recipe card.*
To whip up these delightful Valentine’s dessert, start by laying square pretzels on a baking sheet. Top each with an unwrapped Rolo candy. Briefly heat them in the oven for 1-2 minutes, just until the chocolate and caramel begin to soften. Once out of the oven, quickly press an M&M onto each Rolo. For an oven-free method, simply microwave the pretzels and Rolos for 5-10 seconds.
Recipe Tips
- Square pretzels are my go-to as they hold the chocolate perfectly. Alternatively, twist or rod pretzels can be used. You will want to split the rods in halve and use 4 pieces together to hold the candy.
- While Rolos are my favorite for that classic turtle taste, feel free to try Dove Chocolates, Hershey Kisses, Hershey Hugs, or even Milk Duds.
- Experiment with toppings! Instead of M&Ms, try pecans, almonds, Milk Duds, Red Hots, or a drizzle of white chocolate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use different types of pretzels?
Absolutely! As shared in the recipe tips I find square pretzels work best. If you opt for pretzel rods or twists, just follow the tips I’ve shared above.
Can I substitute Rolos with other candies?
Yes, you can. Any chocolate candy is fine, but Rolos give that signature turtle flavor. Milk duds will have a similar flavor but the texture will be different as the caramel is much harder.
Can I replace M&Ms with other toppings?
Definitely! Feel free to get creative with nuts, different candies, or chocolate drizzles. I’ve listed some ideas in the recipe tips above.
