Looking for a healthier version of the summer dink favorite, Homemade Lemonade?

This super easy freshly squeezed lemonade sweetened with honey is the answer. This delicious lemonade recipe is packed with all natural flavors of lemon and honey without all the refined sugar.

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE THE PERFECT HOMEMADE LEMONADE?

Lemonade is simple to make. There are 3 many ingredients you need to make the perfect lemonade.

  • Lemon juice – fresh is best but bottled can still make a great homemade lemonade.
  • Sweetener – usually you see this in the form of refined white granulated sugar but in this recipe, I use raw natural honey.
  • Water – this can be in the form of warm or cold water or ice cubes. Lemon juice is like concentrate. To make a delicious homemade lemonade you really need to dilute the lemon juice and acidity.

When these 3 components are mixed together, lemonade is made. It’s like a refreshing magic potion that will bring you happiness and joy on any hot summer’s day!

HOW DO I NATURALLY SWEETEN LEMONADE?

If you didn’t catch the title… let me spell it out for you here. H-O-N-E-Y! That’s the secret to this all natural homemade lemonade recipe.

Raw honey is a great way to naturally sweeten lots of dishes and drinks including this homemade lemonade recipe. Typically, you can replace refined granulated sugar in a recipe by using honey at a 3 parts honey to 4 parts sugar (i.e. 3/4 cup honey for every 1 cup granulated white sugar) because honey is naturally sweeter than regular refined sugar.

Keep the good stuff good when making your honey lemonade. Raw honey has natural qualities that can benefit your health but overheating the honey or lemonade mixture can destroy these qualities. Some lemonade recipes recommend using hot water to help the honey dissolve. I use a blender to make this naturally sweetened honey lemonade because I want to retain as much of the good qualities and “health” benefits raw honey possesses.

WHAT KIND OF LEMON JUICE SHOULD I USE TO MAKE HOMEMADE LEMONADE?

Fresh lemon juice is best but bottled (store-bought) can be used. I think homemade lemonade made with freshly squeezed lemon juice really brings out the natural flavors and has an overall better flavor.

I buy lemons from my local Rancho Market. They aren’t anything special, just plain Jane lemons. I like to buy them at this market because they sell them by the pound rather than per lemon and are often much cheaper (I bought these lemons for 2 pounds for a dollar!) If you don’t have a lemon tree, it’s always worth it to look at local ads to see if a store near you has them on sale.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS HONEY LEMONADE RECIPE COST TO MAKE?

This homemade honey lemonade recipe easy to make and inexpensive especially if you have a lemon tree! Even if you don’t, this recipe is quick cheap to make and so worth trying this summer.

Prices for supplies may vary depending on location and store you purchase groceries from.  I try to shop bulk food stores, use coupons, watch ads and shop sales (like case lot), buy supplies in bulk to save money in the long run and use homegrown produce and herbs when available. These are a great way to stay within my grocery budget without sacrificing flavor or nutrition.

Here’s a list of the ingredients and my cost:

  • Lemons (freshly squeezed lemon juice) – $0.50
  • Honey – $1.20
  • Water – FREE

The total cost for me to make this delicious, refreshing homemade lemonade sweetened with honey was less than $2. With only 3 ingredients (2 if you don’t count the water 😉 ), this honey lemonade recipe is a must try this summer. Really, with the health benefits of lemon and honey, it might even be a good choice for flu season.

  2. We love this recipe! My four year old really likes to help me in the kitchen and this is one of his favorites. If you do the slushy version I recommend warming the honey slightly, otherwise it can stick to the side of the blender. I usually warm 1/4 cup of water just slightly and then add the raw honey to that (just gently heat as to not destroy the enzymes in raw honey). Then all into the blender with the 5 cups of ice and the 1 cup of lemon juice.

  4. I’m going to try it, but you can also microwave the honey with a little water then shake it up out of the microwave. I make sun tea that way and I shake the tea when I add the microwaved honey.

    • Hi there! A blender is ideal for a super fast blend but if you don’t have one a pitcher and long spoon or whisk will work just fine. You may need to stir it for a few minutes to help the honey dissolve but it should taste just as yummy! Thanks for stopping by.
