Full of delicious cinnamon swirls, these Soft Amish Cinnamon Cookies are perfect for breakfast or a late night snack. Soft, fluffy, and adapted from an Amish muffin recipe, they’ll be a hit with everyone.
A few weeks ago my sister made a batch of Amish cinnamon muffins. They were delicious! So sweet and good in fact that I adapted the recipe into a cookie.
These sweet, fluffy Amish Cinnamon Swirl Cookies are just as good (I think better) as the muffins. We had them as a snack, dessert, and… breakfast. Yes, I let my kids eat these delicious cookies for breakfast!
They’re easy to make and worth a try if you haven’t had them before.
To whip up a batch of these cookies you start with creaming the butter and sugar. Then add the egg and vanilla. Once mixed, add the buttermilk and dry ingredients.
Here’s the tricky part. You don’t want to over mix these cookies. Only mix the batter until the flour is ALMOST incorporated. At that point, fold in the cinnamon sugar mixture. You don’t want the cinnamon sugar to be fully mixed in. That’s where the cinnamon swirls come from.
Now you’re ready to scoop the dough onto a cookie sheet. Lastly, sprinkle each cookie with a little cinnamon sugar and bake. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F. or until the cookie begins to brown around the edges and bottom.
Viola! Delicious soft Amish Cinnamon Swirl Cookies are done! These cookies are so yummy! Surprisingly, they aren’t overly sweet (at least to us 😉 ). We enjoy them for dessert as well as a sweet breakfast or snack.
You can also use this same batter as a muffin. Instead of scooping onto a cookie sheet, use a muffin tin lined with paper liners. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick in the center comes out clean. Yummmmm!
Whether you enjoy this recipe as muffins or cookies, for breakfast, snack or dinner, all the cinnamon lovers out there will love them!
