WHAT ARE LASAGNA PIZZA ROLL UPS?

Al dente lasagna noodles + marinara sauce + your favorite pizza toppings = lasagna pizza roll ups

Replacing pizza crust with lasagna noodles makes this dish fun, easy and so yummy! These roll ups are made with al dente (mostly cooked) lasagna noodles layered marinara sauce, stuffed with pizza toppings, baked to perfection and smothered with melted cheese. They are easy to make and so delicious.

PRO TIP: You can also get the noodles to al dente by placing them in a tall pitcher of very hot water for about 30 minutes or until they are pliable enough to roll. I’ve placed the noodles in a large pitcher then filled it with hot tap water. I then left the tap slowly drizzling hot water into the pitcher with noodles until the noodles were softened and pliable. This cuts down heat in the kitchen.

If you are a pizza and pasta lover, these pizza roll ups are for you.

  • cheese
  • pepperoni
  • sausage
  • ham
  • pineapple
  • mushrooms
  • onions
  • peppers
  • olives
  • bacon
  • chicken
  • artichoke

You can have some fun with sauces too. Sauce choices could include:

  • marinara

HOW TO MAKE LASAGNA PIZZA ROLL UPS:

These roll ups are simple to make. Start by cooking traditional lasagna noodles according to the package. Pro tip, don’t overcook the pasta. Only cook the pasta until al dente.

WHAT IS AL DENTE?

After completing an quick Google search, here’s the definition they gave me. Al dente is “cooked so as to be still firm when bitten.” The most important point with this step is to not overcook the pasta. The noodles will finish cooking after being stuffed and baked.

STUFFING PASTA ROLL UPS:

Once the noodles are cooled, lay them flat then add your preferred sauce. We love marinara.

Top the sauced pasta with your favorite pizza toppings. We love the classic cheese and pepperoni.

Next, carefully roll the pasta up then place in a greased pan then add a little sauce on top.

Cover the pizza roll ups and pop them in a preheated oven.

Once cooked, smother with cheese, cover for another 3-5 minutes until the cheese is ooey, gooey and melted.

Dish and enjoy!

FREEZER FRIENDLY!

Did you know these lasagna pizza roll ups are freezer friendly?!?! Yep, they are!

What does that mean? It means you can make it now and save time later.

HOW TO FREEZE LASAGNA ROLL UPS:

After topping the pasta roll ups with sauce, cover then freeze. You will skip the oven until the day you want to serve these.

PRO TIP: use freezer-friendly, oven-friendly containers to free. I love using 1/3 size disposable tins or 1/2 sheet disposable times. Both have a 2 to 3 inch side and I don’t have to freeze my glass or metal bakeware for a month or two or until I decide to bake the roll ups.

This recipe will freeze for up to 3 months in the freezer or 6 months in a deep freezer.

When ready, thaw and bake as directed or bake from frozen by adding an additional 15-20 minutes to the bake time.

I love doubling or tripling the recipe then I can bake one for that night and freeze the others for a busy day.
