HAPPY LOVE DAY!

Do you need a last minute dessert idea?  An easy dessert charcuterie board can be filled with your favorite chocolate covered goodies, dried fruit, and candied nuts.  Store-bought or homemade, you can’t go wrong.  It turns simple sweet treats into a beautifully elegant, finger-friendly edible art piece.  A perfect addition to any party or dessert table.  Add festive colors for the occasion.  This board was designed with Valentine’s Day in mind.

You can easily make your own dessert charcuterie board!

Are you in the Valentines spirit because we are in full swing over here.  My husband (who goes to work before anyone else is awake) just received this charcuterie board as a Valentines surprise from me.  It was a last-minute idea thrown together yesterday while he was at work.  Wrapped it up nice and tight, it was waiting for him on the front seat of his car this morning.  Big black and red letters written with a Sharpie on the plastic wrap said “HAPPY LOVE DAY!  Open at work because you’ll want to share. <3 P.S. don’t tip or shake the tray or it won’t look so pretty.” Haha.

It was so fun to make!

This dessert charcuterie board turned out awesome and I just received a call from my husband. He said he loved the board and his coworkers are enjoying it too! <3

WHAT’S A CHARCUTERIE BOARD?

A charcuterie board is French and usually filled with cured meats, cheese, and fruit.  The items are arranged on a board in a tight but beautiful way.  They can be served at parties, brunch, as an appetizer, etc.  This charcuterie board was designed with Valentine’s Day in mind.  I gave it to my husband for Valentine’s Day to share with his coworkers.  This charcuterie board is filled with fun, festive Valentine’s desserts like chocolate covered strawberries, caramel and chocolate dipped pretzels, easy Valentine turtle pretzels, honey cinnamon glazed pecans, candied nuts, chocolate covered almonds and dried fruit.

WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE ON MY CHARCUTERIE BOARD?

One of the greatest things about charcuterie boards is that it’s made up of a modpog of whatever you like, have on hand, or want to include.  You’ll want to include things that aren’t sticky or runny.   For a dessert charcuterie board, you can include items such as:

  • dried fruit
  • nuts (candied or plain roasted)
  • chocolates
  • chocolate covered items (whole fruit, dried fruit, pretzels, nuts)

Add specific colors for the occasion.  If it’s Valentine’s add red and pink.  Christmas, add red and green.  St. Patrick’s day, shades of green.  Springtime, go for pastels.  It’s so fun to get creative and see what you like and how it turns out.

You don’t have to include items in a bowl or on a plate but sometimes it’s easier to “build” if some or round items are a little more confined.  I choose to use the 3 bowls on this dessert charcuterie board. One, I had them on hand, and two, the toffeed peanuts and chocolate covered almonds would have rolled away or I would have only been able to include a fourth as many.

CHARCUTERIE BOARDS ARE GREAT FOR ENTERTAINING?

There are many advantages to making a dessert charcuterie.  One of them is how awesome they are for entertaining.  Here are some other reasons why a dessert charcuterie is so great.

  • Can be prepared ahead
  • Can be made with homemade or store-bought items and treats
  • Use what you have or what you want
  • Make it your own
  • Can be made for as many or few people as you’d like

You can place your treats on a large (or small for two) cutting board or tray.  If you don’t have a cutting board to use you could also use a cookie sheet or even a cake pan.  There really are no requirements or limits on a charcuterie board.  Make it your own. 🙂

What will you be including on your dessert charcuterie board?
