Is this S’mores French Toast Bread Pudding for breakfast or dessert?… Well, I’ll be the first to admit I made this for breakfast this morning! With all it’s classic s’mores flavors, ooey gooey marshmallow, sweet graham cracker crunch, melted bits of delicious chocolate, everyone will LOVE it for dessert (OR breakfast 😉 ).
Disclaimer: you’re going to want to make this s’mores recipe after reading this! You can find the full printable recipe below.
This recipe was unexpected… the best ones usually are. You see, we’ve had my niece and nephews staying with us this weekend to give their parents a kids-free weekend and figured a french toast bake would be a great parting breakfast. But then I got this great idea right before I started… in stead of just doing my favorite Dulce De Leche French Toast Bake, why not make it with a fun s’mores twist? Who doesn’t like s’mores, right? This recipe had it all and it was so heavenly I had to share.
Sweet breakfasts like this, hold a special place in my heart. I love sweet things for breakfast. I probably shouldn’t indulge in them as much as I do. Tehehe. But we only live once and I’ll eat a salad for dinner. 😉 If you don’t care for super sweet breakfasts, you might classify this as a bread pudding dessert. I’m on the fence with what this actually should be, thus the really long title of this post. It requires NO syrup or topping if serving with breakfast and could use a scoop of ice cream or dollop of whip cream for dessert.
The process is very simple. Take the cubed bread, half the crushed graham crackers, half the marshmallows, and half the chocolate chips. Toss together and pour them into a 9×13 inch pan that’s been sprayed with pan spray. Sprinkle chocolate and remaining marshmallows over the top. Whisk all wet ingredients together. Pour over bread. Sprinkle remaining graham crackers on top. It’ll look something like this.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until the marshmallows have browned and the middle has set. It will be a little gooey but not “raw.”
The bread and egg mixture turns into a custard-like consistency. The warm marshmallows on top get nice and toasted and the chocolate becomes melted and soft. Ahhhhh… it is sooooo delicious! Here I am, telling you all about it, wanting another piece, even having just enjoyed this THIS MORNING! I know we will be enjoying the classic s’mores flavors regularly minus the summer campfire.
If you love s’mores, you totally need to give this recipe a try. You will love it!!! Happy toasting! 😉
